The Marx: The Untimely Contemporary (2018)
Three day conference and workshop in Ramallah
Date: December 9-11, 2018
Locations: KSCC, Goethe Ramallah, RLS Ramallah, Birzeit
The Marx: The Untimely Contemporary event combines various formats, sites and audiences to address Marx’s multi-faceted oeuvre and life. Reflecting on the political and theoretical challenges of biographical accounts, the opening lecture at the Khalil Sakakini Cultural Center on Dec 9, 2018 introduces Marx as a revolutionary thinker and scientific scholar who did not fully fit the context and constraints of his age. The second day, Dec 10, 2018, opens with a conference day on Birzeit campus, focusing on Marx’s relevance and legacy in contemporary critical theory and academic research. In the afternoon and evening the event will be hosted again at the Khalil Sakakini Cultural Center where the reading workshop on selected text passages in Marx takes place. The third day, Dec 11, 2018, focuses on Marx’s current political relevance in Palestine and beyond; a roundtable with Palestinian and international guests will be hosted by the Ramallah office of the Rosa-Luxemburg foundation.
